The West Central Area Knights traveled to Thief River Falls for the Heart O’ Lakes Conference Cross Country meet on Tuesday, and ran in some soggy conditions.

The boys’ team placed five on the All Conference list with Jacob Bright winning the race in a time of 16:19.   Jacob has had an amazing season thus far, setting two school records.   Next was Jack Van Kempen in 5th, followed by Kade Runge in 6th, Alex Salwasser in 9th and Kyle Schill in 11th to round out the team scoring and the All Conference runners.  The Knights finished in 2nd place to Perham in the team competition.  Reubens Swanson (18th) and Shad Swanson (22nd) made up the other varsity runners.

“The course was a little wet with standing water in some locations and our times may have been a little slower but all these guys competed today,” said Head Coach John Van Kempen.  “We love how these guys go after it time after time when the gun goes off.  We’ve never doubted their competitiveness or determination in races.”

The girls were led by Lexi Bright in 8th and Teagan Nelson in 9th, both being named All Conference and finishing in third place as a team to Perham and Hawley.   Brynn Fernholz narrowly missed the All Conference list, finishing in 16th place.  Taylor Bennet was next in 22nd, Alexa Blume in 25th,  Brooklyn Runge in 39th and Quin Huntley in 44th.  “We will now be honing our skills for the section meet which is in about two weeks in Pierz,” said Van Kempen.

The junior varsity boys placed 2nd as a team.  Dane Anderson was the Knights first finisher across the line in 5th place, with the next three, all WCA runners.  Peyton Hanson (6th), Eli Bergman (7th) and Roman Mihailovschi (8th).  Tyler Biss was next team member in 13th, followed by Bryce Kjesbo (15th), Jack Courier (17th) and Camden Anderson (31st).
