Pelican Rapids hosted Staples-Motley on Tuesday night and swept the Cardinals 25-13, 25-17, 25-23.

The team was excited to get back on the court after an exciting win against Battle Lake Monday night,” said Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “The Vikings were excited to keep the ball rollin’ and keep improving their offensive game.  The girls came out strong to start set one.  Riley Berg served very aggressively all night and started us off with a 7 point serving run.  Offensive execution has been a struggle for us this season and the Vikings really stepped it up to execute offensively, controlling most of set one by hitting and serving the ball aggressively.  Set 2 was a little more of a back and forth game.  Staples-Motley started to hit the ball better than their first set and we needed to make a few back row adjustments.  Also our blocking started to pick up which started to get their hitters to have to put the ball elsewhere.  Greta Tollefson owned the net tonight and had several key block kills for us.  Kelsey Isaman was much more aggressive hitting the ball at the net tonight and Riley Berg did a great job finishing set 2 off a monster kill. Set 3 the Vikings did not serve receive very well to start and our sets were not able to get us to the tape to be able to swing with all our power.  We had a few communication errors and we were not as aggressive on the offensive end.  Luckily the Vikings pushed through and finished off a huge kill but Anna Stephenson. I was really proud of how these girls pushed through tonight and played with more confidence.  We were more aggressive at crunch time and we ended the game swinging and wanting to finish.”

Leaders for Pelican Rapids were Stephenson (3 aces, 9 kills, 12 digs), Berg (2 aces, 8 kills, 15 digs), Tollefson (11 kills, 6 digs, 9 set assists, 6 block kills), Ryley Paulson (6 kills, 20 digs), Sophia Paulson (9 digs, 12 set assists) and Allie Haiby (6 digs, 1 ace).

The Vikings will host conference leader Barnesville on Thursday, October 10th for their elementary autograph night.
