The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer Team defeated the Fergus Falls Otters by the score of 3-0 at the Kennedy Otter Stadium of Tuesday as the teams opened Section 8A playoff action.

16 minutes into the contest Jowell Seymour took a pass at the top of the box from Jack Swelstad, attacking up the right touchline.  Seymour scored with a hard shot to the bottom left corner, just out of reach of Otter Keeper, Ian Stumbo.  At 28 minutes, Kristian Maestad found Severin Breck with a nice pass up the middle.  Breck slipped past the Otter defense and scored, sending the Comets into the half with a two goal lead.  The Otters came out in the second half hard, keeping the ball in the Comet defensive end for the first several minutes, but were unable to score.  With the Otters forward, Kristian Maestad was able to make a perfect pass again, up the middle to Severin Breck, who scored with a blast to the upper right corner, ending all scoring for the game.  Senior Co-Captain, Zajen McArton was perfect in the net for the Comets with ten saves on net.

“The Comets played their best game of the season tonight,” said Head Coach Rod Jensen. “Several players stepped up and played an excellent ball game!  James Cho, Brandon Babineau, Jack Swelstad played hard and physical, causing several Otter turnovers.  Stopper, Kristian Bormo, was always in the right spot to thwart the Otter attacks and start the Comet counter attack.  It was a classic game, watching brothers, both, Abram Ness and Senior Co-Captain Ethan Ness battle against one another!”

The Comets now 6-6-1 on the season, travel to Alexandria on Thursday to take on the third ranked Cardinals in the north half of Section 8A.

"What a disappointing way to end the season," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Steven Ness.  "We came out very flat in the first 20 minutes and it cost us a goal.  Once that happened we just couldn't put it together.  We had chances, but at the end of the day didn't get it done.  I am very proud of the season we had.  Losing an entire varsity team last year was tough and we didn't know what to expect, but the young guys we got stepped up big and we had a very fun year.  JV and Varsity both took great steps toward the future.  I want to thank the seniors for all the blood, sweat and tears this year.  I am proud of our program and our year."
