M State Golfers Take Commanding First Round Lead

The M State Men’s Golf Team has opened up a big lead in the MCAC/Region XIII National Qualifier at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, shooting a 314 to take a commanding 35 stroke advantage of Southwest Tech from Wisconsin.

Grant Inniger had the low round of the day for the Spartans with a 76.  Wyatt Blomseth (77) and John Vall (79) were also in the 70’s for the Spartans.  On the Men’s side, the winning team and medalist advance to the National Tournament in June.

Lexi Poyzer led the Spartans on the ladies side with a 98.

“I was very pleased with the way we played and it was a great start for our team,” said Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “Grant Inniger was outstanding today.  Wyatt struck the ball well and John really gave us a solid round.  It was a great overall team effort.  On the ladies side, Lexi Poyzer had a very nice back nine to give us a nice score.  The weather looks good for Tuesday so we are hoping for a great day for the final round.”
