Verndale Holds C-G-B Under 100 Yards in 28-0 Win

The Verndale Pirates scored 22 second half points on the way to a 28-0 road win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Friday night.

Zak Olsson hauled in a ten-yard touchdown pass from Dilan Orlando at 5:53 of the first quarter to spot the Pirates a 6-0 lead that held up to halftime.

Verndale added a third quarter touchdown on a 26 yard run from Jake Ismil.  When Orlando and Olsson connected on the two-point conversion pass the Pirates built their lead to 14-0 with 3:41 to play in the third.

With 8:30 left in the fourth Olsson picked off a C-G-B pass and went 28 yards for the score, increasing the lead to 20-0.  Ismil’s 14 yard run with 2:08 left was followed by a conversion pass from Dilan Orlando to Craig Orlando for the final points of the game.

Verndale ran for 174 yards on the night, led by Ismil with 106 on 19 carries.  The Pirates had 81 passing yards with Dilan Orlando completing 9-of-18 passes and Olsson catching six balls for 53 yards.  Olsson finished with two interceptions in the game, while Hunter Schulke and Ismil each had one pick.  The Pirate defense held C-G-B to 96 total yards.

Verndale, now 5-1, will host Ortonville on Friday night.
