Perham Wins Shootout with East Grand Forks

Perham and East Grand Forks combined for 959 yards on Friday night as the Yellowjackets posted a 60-44 win in a high scoring high school football contest in Perham.  The Yellowjackets had 381 rushing yards and 129 yards passing, while East Grand Forks compiled 227 yards on the ground and 222 through the air.

Colton Hackel had a huge game, running for 261 yards on 26 carries and scoring three touchdowns, whle completing 7-of-21 passes for 129 yards and 4 TD’s.   Hackel also had an interception and 3 solo tackles on defense. Dawson Kellogg added 102 yards on 15 carries.  Finn Diggins came up with 4 catches for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Noah Rooney caught 3 passes for 42 yards and a pair of scores.  Diggins led the defense with 9 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles, forcing a fumble and recording a pair of sacks.  Maddux Kovash and Isaac Lung each had a sack and Gabe Bellefeuille recovered a fumble.

East Grand Forks was led by Sam Votava with 86 yards on 15 carries and Carter Vasek with 68 yards on 18 attempts.  Votava completed 10-of-20 passes for 222 yards and 4 TD’s.  Nathan Willett was the leading receiver for the Greenwave with six catches for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Perham scored the only touchdown of the first quarter when Noah Rooney hauled in a 26 yard pass from Hackel.  Hackel added the two-point conversion and it was 8-0.

In the second quarter, East Grand Forks pulled even with a 57 yard run by Micaiah Peterson and a two-point conversion run by Votava.  Perham took a 22-8 halftime lead on the strength of a two-yard pass from Hackel to Rooney, and a twelve yard run and two-point conversion run by Diggins.

Perham extended their lead to 30-8 at 8:35 of the third quarter on a 32 yard pass play from Hackel to Diggins and a Hackel run for the two-point conversion.  East Grand Forks then scored on a 75-yard pass from Votava to Willett and a Votava rush for two-points, cutting the lead to 30-16.  A six-yard pass from Votava to Brody Schultz made it 30-22, however, Perham added a 56-yard TD run by Hackel with 3:32 to play in the third quarter.  A two-point conversion run by Diggins brought the Perham lead to 38-22 at the end of three quarters.

Hackel started the fourth quarter on an 11-yard run with 11:52 left in the game, making it 44-22.  At 9:32 Willett caught a 37 yard TD pass from Votava and Brandon Anderson caught the two-point conversion pass from Votava leaving Perham with a 44-20 lead.  Hackel scored on a 40-yard run with 7:01 to play and the Kellog two-point rush made it 52-30, Yellowjackets.  At 5:18, Anderson hauled in a 4-yard pass from Votava, cutting the Perham lead to 52-36.  Diggins scored on a 34-yard pass from hackle and Kellogg ran in for two points, increasing the Perham lead to 60-36.  With just 1:01 to play in the game Votava scored on a 25-yard run.  A two-point conversion run by Vasek finished the scoring with Perham winning 60-44.
