The Barnesville Trojans remained unbeaten with a 30-6 homecoming victory over West Central Area/Ashby on Friday night.

After the Knights opened the game with a drive that resulted in an interception by Adam Tonsfeldt, they forced Barnesville into a punting situation for the first time since the second half of the first game of the season.  The Knights were stopped on down at the Barnesville 39 on their second possession and Barnesville turned a fourth and one into a 34 yard touchdown run by Cameron Heng with 1:38 left in the first quarter.  Tonsfeldt scored the two-point conversion and the Trojans took an 8-0 lead.

On their first possession of the second quarter the Trojans started on the Knights 48 yard line and scored on the eighth play of their drive, a six-yard run by Hunter Anderson.  Tonsfeldt again carried the ball in for the two-point conversion and the home team took a 16-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A 14-point third quarter allowed Barnesville to open up a 30-0 lead after three.  Aaron Schiefert ran the ball in from 21 yards out, completing an eight-play, 68-yard scoring drive with 7:55 left in the quarter.  Connor Morse booted the extra point kick.  On their next possession the Trojans went 66 yards in 12 plays and scored when Tonsfeldt connected with Joey Mark on a five-yard pass in the back of the end zone.  Another Morse PAT closed out the Trojans scoring.

West Central Area/Ashby scored their only touchdown of the night on a 24-yard pass from Jaden Norby to Kaleb Getz with 2:50 remaining in the game.

Barnesville ran for 271 yards and compiled 305 total yards of offense on the night.  They were led by Anderson with 91 yards on 12 carries, Tonsfeldt with 68 yards on 12 carries and Heng with 43 yards on 5 rushing attempts.  Schiefert ran the ball six times for 37 yards.  Tonsfeldt completed 3-of-6 passes for 29 yards.  The Trojans had 16 first downs in the game, 15 of them coming on the ground.  Defensively, Hunter Zenzen had an interception and recorded a sack.

“I felt we made some mistakes throughout the game but came out on top,” said Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “WCA played very good defense all night and were physical, something we needed to see.  They were well coached up and played us well.  Turnovers in the first half kept the score closer, but that is part of the game and we learn from those mistakes.   We threw two costly interceptions, one down by the goal line before the half, their kid made a nice break on the ball.  We played great defense again last night, holding them to 58 yards on the ground and 90 through the air,  88 of those yards came in the fourth quarter so I felt our defense was really on par for the night.  They made us work for our yards and made the kids play a solid three quarters.  We came out healthy last night which is always good and now we get ready for the last week and a half of the season with Roseau this week and then Staples on a short week.  It is always amazing how fast the season goes.  Hunter Anderson had a fantastic night running the ball, 12 carries for 91 yards and a TD.  He just flat out plays hard and gives us is all every night.  Very proud of the kids and their effort, it has been a fun season.  There is a chance we will see WCA again if we were both to make it out of our sections, the rematch would be fun.  Also the coaches have been working very hard and doing a fantastic job, so many of the coaches put in a ton of hours and it really shows up on Friday nights.  I am lucky to have such a great staff.”

West Central Area/Ashby was led by Hunter Norby with 58 yards rushing on six attempts.  Jaden Norby completed 10-of-22 passes for 109 yards.  Gage Staples caught four passes for 28 yards and Tate Christenson was on the receiving end of two passes for 31 yards.  Anthony Sykora and Gage Staples each had an interception for the Knights and Austin Mattson recovered two fumbles.  Jaden Norby (13 tackles, 11 solo) and JJ Sabolik (5 tackles) were the tackle leaders.
