Perham Girls Cross Country Invitational Results

The Perham girls cross country team finished second to Lakeville South at the Perham Invitational on Thursday.  Lakeville South posted a winning total of 83 points and the Yellowjackets came in with 37.  Fargo North was third with 107, followed by Pequot Lakes (125), Moorhead (152), Bemidji (169), Fargo Shanley (198), Wadena-Deer Creek (231), Fergus Falls (284) and Little Falls (291).  Rounding out the team scoring were West Fargo Sheyenne (335), Fargo South (349), Pelican Rapids (349), Minnwaska Area (390), Lake Park-Audubon (408), Ottertail Central (432), Detroit Lakes (437), Nevis (453) and Roseau (467).

Freshman Jade Rypkema of Nevis was the individual winner with a time of 18:15.9, and senior Brianne Brewster of Lakeville South was runner-up with a time of 18:19.1.  Fargo North sophomore Anna Lien (18:27.1) was third.  Rounding out the top ten were Kira Sweeney (18:38) of Wadena-Deer Creek, Calia Chaney (18:45.6) of Pequot Lakes, Taylor Melton (18:55.1) of Moorhead, Regan DeWitt (18:58.1) of Bemidji, Avery Heinz (18:59.5) of Lakeville South, Carly Chaney (19:01.5) of Pequot Lakes and Aspen Rohde (19:04.2) of Perham.

For Perham, freshman Quincy Anderson (19:59.6) was nineteenth, freshman Mya Morris (20:00.0) was twentieth, and eighth-grader Kaia Starzl (20:12.9), freshman Lauryn Rustad (20:13.3) and freshman Liz Birkeland (20:13.3) placed 22nd, 23rd and 24th.  Senior Abby Tweeton (20:40.0) was 38th.

Fergus Falls was led by Emily Nuss (19:38.3) in 14th place.  She was followed by Karolyn Papon (21:05.2) 52nd, Ainsley Hansen (21:17.5) 54th, Ellia Soydara (22:19.0) 84th, Sierra Hatlewick (22:45.1) 100th, Rebecca Schindler (22:55.0) 107th and MaKenna Stenstrom (23:24.5) 119th.

“Our girls had an excellent showing at tonight's meet, placing 9 in a field of 19,” noted Head Coach Niki Welde of the Otters.  “Emily Nuss medaled for the Otter girls tonight. Emily, Karolyn Papon, Ainsley Hansen, and Ellia Soydara, and Becca Schindler all had 45 second or better drops.   Makenna Stenstrom and Sierra Hatlewick both had excellent times and raced hard against their competition. This is a flat, hard, fast course.  The girls came into this with great attitudes and some fire.  Naomi Dummer led the Middle School girls with an excellent time.  Hannah Scharnberg had the largest time drop with a 37 second improvement.”
