Thursday the #6 seeded Fergus Falls Otters battled against the #3 seeded Alexandria Cardinals in Grand Forks at the section 8AA sub-section girls’ tennis tournament. The Cardinals swept the match 7-0.

“Alexandria shows depth and consistency throughout their lineup that we were just unable to match today,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Jamie Lill.  “Our girls looked good though; they battled well on the court.  A couple of very notable matches came on the doubles side of things. Carlie Meis and Olivia Kaliher looked great and came out of the gates on a mission, starting the match winning the first three games.  Their intensity was palpable.  Alexandria made adjustments and fought their way back to a 6-4, 6-2 win, but Carlie and Olivia have nothing to hang their head about in this match against a very tough duo. Elizabeth Houge and Mia Marsh played the best tennis we’ve seen from them all season in their 3rd doubles match. The girls did a great job of capitalizing on their opportunities and staying aggressive throughout.  This match was back and forth and competitive from the first ball strike. Alexandria stole a bit of momentum when they took the first set in a tie break before earning the match 7-6(2), 6-2.”

With this loss, the Otter’s season has come to a close as a team. Tomorrow the will have six individuals participating in the individual tournament. Ellie Colbeck and Elizabeth Houge will represent the Otters as their singles entries as well as the doubles teams of Carlie Meis/Olivia Kaliher and Elissa Lee/Leila Nasri.
