“It was a cool night and most of the runners were relaxed on the course,” stated Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Robert Bosma. “Though it is one of the toughest races we see all year, I was impressed with the number of my runners who had a PR for the season. 13 of the 18 total runners ran better than they had all season. I think it was because the weather was perfect for a run and my team knows how to run hills. Also, the atmosphere of going against bigger schools really hyped them up to run hard.  Knowing how fast some of the AA schools run, I moved some runners around with where they would normally run. I remember that last year, most of the girls in the varsity race were under 26 minutes, so I ran our varsity team in the JV race. The strategy worked for our runners as all three bested their previous times by over a minute each. They are all new to running this year and are starting to figure it out. I cannot wait to see how they approach the next couple races leading into conference and sections.”

Here's how Bosma assessed his runners' performances at the John Hermes Invite, "The guys each had great races. Wes Siira is starting to look like he did last year and his time is dropping. Outside of one small section of the race, he looked comfortable and he attacked each hill with a renewed determination. Last year, Abram didn’t run well at this meet, but last night he found himself in a pack and used them to his advantage. I talk about taking energy from others in the race and he used that mental philosophy yesterday.  Blake has been battling a hip injury this week and it wasn’t certain if he was going to run or not, but he felt he could try. Because of this, he went with the strategy to run with Titus and help pace him for the first two miles and push him. This definitely helped motivate Titus and proved yet again why Blake is one of our captains this year. At Mile 2, Blake was feeling good and he had the green light to push it on the last mile. It was one of the fastest mile splits he has put together in a race. Titus seemed to be motivated by this and dropped his best time by almost a minute.  Logan Froemming didn’t run due to a hamstring injury."
