The Barnesville volleyball team won a Heart O’ Lakes Conference home match from Frazee on Tuesday night, winning 25-9, 25-21, 25-14.

“Tonight we opened up the first set of the night with some strong serving by Lexi Bolgrean giving us a 6-1 lead,” noted Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “We were attacking the ball well on the net and picking up some great balls on defense. I was really pleased with how well we were reading their hitters and moving as a unit out on the floor. Our attacking was very smart and wide spread with all attackers staying in the action. We used our attackers in great positions tonight and had the ball in the right hands when we needed to. Frazee is a tough team who picks up many balls that we thought were going to hit the floor. The girls did a wonderful job communicating tonight and played together as a whole. This was our best match from start to finish of the season. There were many hustle plays by both sides of the net.”

Leader for the lady Trojans were Bolgrean (14 digs, 20/20 serving, 5 aces, 4 kills), Emily Condon (15 digs, 7/7 serving), Sam Passa (12 digs, 12/12 serving, 1 ace, 2 block assists), Kim Maesse (16 set assists, 15/15 serving, 1 ace, 7 digs), Katie Newell (10 set assists, 2 block assists, 8/9 serving, 1 ace), Jordan Tschumperlin (8 kills, 8/8 serving, 2 block assists) and Emily Bredman (9 kills, 1 solo block).  Barnesville missed only one serve in 74 attempts on the night.

“After coming off a tough weekend in Burnsville we needed a night where we all played well together,” added Coach Askegaard. “Emily Bredeman and Jordan Tschumperlin did a nice job attacking in the middle. Kim Maesse had many balls coming at her in the backrow which she played up beautifully to get an aggressive attack. Emily Condon had another solid game on defense picking up attacks and tips from the Hornets.  We honored Emily Condon on her 1,000 kill tonight as well as faculty appreciation night honoring staff members.”
