The Pelican Rapids Volleyball team honored their parents and family members Monday, September 23rd as they hosted Wadena-Deer Creek.

“WDC brings lots of experience to the table and the Vikings new they had very big and athletic middle hitter that we needed to try and slow down and an explosive outside hitter that we also needed to contain,” stated Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “We also knew that if we could get them out of system and hit the ball on our end we could play head to head with the Wolverines.  This is exactly what we did set one.  The Vikings served very aggressively to give the Wolervines a hard time of getting their big middle hitter in the game as much as they would have liked to.  Riley Berg (3 aces) and Anna Stepheson (1 ace) served very well for us tonight and were are ace leaders.  We struggled with serve receive as well right away to hinder our own hitters getting into the offense like we wanted to but when we hit the ball we hit the ball very well tonight.  Anna Stephenson (5 kills) and Greta Tollefson (5 kills) both hit well out of the middle tonight and were our kill leaders.  Set one was a close back and forth battle but the Vikings did not have enough to put it away and lost set one 22-15.  Set 2 we did not pass the ball as well which caused WDC to get into system a lot more and they finally got their big middle in the game to start dominating the front row.  WDC’s Kennedy Gravelle got up and above our blockers and we had a really hard time trying to defend her in system.  WDC dominated the offense most of set 2 and we were back to playing most defense.  Set 3 the Vikings started stronger again.  Sophia Paulson (8 digs) picked up some great short balls and we got back to being able to play offense again.  Unfortunately we lost our aggressiveness at the net a bit and did not finish as strong we were are able.  The lost set 3 17-25.

Allie Haiby and Sophia Paulson added 6 and 5 digs, respectively, and Paulson led the Vikings with 5 set assists.

Pelican Rapids will travel to Sebeka for a match on Tuesday.
