The M State Men’s Golf team shot a two-day total of 655 at the St. John’s Fall Invitational, firing a 322 on day one at Greystone and a 333 on day two at Blackberry Ridge.  The 22 team, 120 player field is the largest field the Spartans have ever competed against in recent history.

St. Thomas won the event with a two-day total of 582 (298-284) and Gustavus was runner-up with a 584.  St. Thomas golfer Ben Frazzini was the medalist with a score of 140 (72-68).

Carter Justesen led the Spartans with a pair of 79’s for a score of 158.  Wyatt Blomseth turned in a 161 (79-82), Grant Inniger shot a 168 (79-89), Trevor Dalbec had a 170 (85-85) and John Vall shot a 187 (90-87).

Former Spartan All-American Hunter Moen, playing for St. Cloud State, carded a 157 (78-79), and former Otter Nate Longtin, playing for Concordia, shot a 158 (80-78).

“While we really struggled this weekend, it was a great event for our team to complete in with 22 teams from top notch 4-year College golf programs,” said Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “There were so many great players in the field and we learned a lot about playing on two long, wet, and difficult golf courses.  After playing six competitive rounds in nine days, it will be nice to have some time this week to get some practice in before the closing stretch of our fall schedule.”

The Spartans will compete next at the Valley City State Invite on Tuesday, October 1 at Maple River Golf Course.
