The United North Central Warriors rode a stingy, big-play defense to an 8-0 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Friday night.  The Warriors recorded three sacks, intercepted two passes, recovered two fumbles and stopped C-G-B twice inside the red zone in the first half.

“This game was a battle of field positioning,” stated UNC Head Coach Luke Roberts.  “Both teams kept bending, but would not break.  We denied them twice deep inside our own territory in the first half, forcing turnovers on downs.  Then, we were able to move to midfield before being stopped.  This back-and-forth game continued for three quarters and it turned when Eion Ness intercepted the ball at midfield in the fourth quarter and we were able to work the clock and put a 12-play scoring drive together.”

With about one minute left in the game, Brandon Miller punched the ball into the end zone from the one yard line.  Jonah Howard capped off the drive with the two-point conversion.

Mason Heino had the other interception, while Miller and Logan Torma each recovered a fumble.  Sacks were credited to Miller, Torma and Dakota Meech.

Offensive leaders for UNC were Howard (19 carries, 53 yards), Miller (6 carries, 22 yards), Kolby Kiser (10 carries, 25 yards, 7 completions, 10 attempts, 37 yards) and Ness (3 receptions, 35 yards).

No Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley stats have been reported.
