Cougars Win Big in Underwood

The Ada-Borup Cougars paid a visit to Underwood on Friday night and recorded a 36-6 win over the Rockets.

“We struggled tonight against a very good team,” said Underwood Head Coach Chuck Ross. “Hopefully we can get some things fixed this week as we need to get ready for a good Pelican team.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Ada-Borup scored 22 second quarter points.  Preston Gwin hit Mason Miller with a 64 yard touchdown pass with five minutes left in the half.  Verdis Barber added the two-point conversion run to give the Cougars an 8-0 lead.  With one minute left Gwin connected with Miller again, this time with a 69 yard aerial.  Barber booted the extra point and the Cougars led 15-0.  Barber scored on a 37 yard TD run and Almir Pinheiro added the kick to put the halftime score at 22-0.

 

Gwin and Miller hooked up on a 21 yard TD with 6:15 left in the third quarter and Pinheiro added the PAT kick.  With three minutes left in the third Braiden Fetting ran for 72 yards and the final Cougar touchdown.  Pinheiro again made the extra point kick and the visitors had a 36-0 lead.

With 50 seconds left in the game Underwood got on the scoreboard when Slade Moore carried the ball into the end zone from the four yard line.

Ada-Borup compiled 427 yards with 229 coming on the ground and 198 through the air.  Barber led the way with 116 rushing yards on 17 carries and Fetting ran for 88 yards on 9 attempts.  Miller hauled in four catches for 163 yards and Gwin completed 6-of-8 passes for 198 yards.  Defensively, Gavin Byron had 11 solo tackles and one assisted tackle.  Brady Borgen intercepted a pass.  Fetting and Austin Carlson each recorded a sack.

Underwood had a total of 241 yards, all but one coming on the ground. Zane Swanson ran the ball 15 times for 147 yards to lead the Rockets, and Chase Janu had 60 yards on 16 carries.  Nik Gardin led the defensive effort with 5 solo tackles.
