Battle Lake out lasted the Underwood Rockets in a thrilling 5 set match (25-13, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12) in Underwood on Thursday night.

The Battlers jumped out early in set 1 and were able to maintain pressure to take the first set.  Underwood responded well in sets 2 and 3 with a strong offensive attack.  “The Battlers pushed back at the end of set 3 to gain momentum that we were able to carry into set 4 and 5,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum. “I am so proud of how the girls played.  They never got frustrated or gave up no matter the score.  We played with confidence tonight and finally put a solid match together from start to finish.”

Kate Christensen led the Battlers with 12 kills, 11 digs, and 21 assists.  Grace Van Erp added 9 kills, 12 digs, and 16 assists.  Halie Johnson and Ady Tysdal each had 7 kills while Maleah Hull finished with 5 kills.  Makenna Tysdal controlled the back court with 21 digs.

“It was a good Little 8 conference match tonight,” commented Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross.  “We had some very good moments, but Battle Lake came ready to play tonight and never gave up. We really struggled in set 1 and then found some good tempo in the next two sets.  In set 3 Reese Richards and Brooke Hovland really connected as Brooke put 6 kills away in that set with no errors. After a quick 4-1 lead for us in set 4, Battle Lake came back and tied up the score, with the rest of the set going back and forth, until 22-22 and Battle Lake took the set.  Set 5 was close the whole time, but we didn't put the ball away when we needed, and they did.”

Kayla Rocholl led the Rockets with 16 kills, followed by Brooke Hovland with 13, and Ally Johnson and Josey Bugbee each getting 9.  Reese Richards added 44 set assists, along with 3 blocks and an ace serve. Brianna Evavold led the digging category with 28.  Amber Frigaard added 14 and Kayla Rocholl 11. Ally Johnson added 5 ace blocks, Mo Bugbee 4 ace blocks and Josey Bugbee 3.

The Rockets are 3-1 in the conference and 6-5 overall and will travel to Ashby next Tuesday.

The Battlers take on Frazee on Monday.
