On Thursday afternoon the Otter tennis team hosted Willmar in a 2:30pm dual on the Kennedy courts.  Willmar took the match 5-2.

The two wins for Fergus Falls came at the top of the lineup with Ellie Colbeck holding steady in her first singles matchup and the first doubles duo of Carlie Meis and Olivia Kaliher winning their very close match in straight sets.

“Ellie started a bit slow today, dropping the first set 6-4 to a very steady Ashley Prahl of Willmar,” reported Head Coach Jamie Lill.  “Ellie really dug in to start the second set, winning the first 5 games.  After cruising through the second set, she earned the win in a third set super tie breaker.  Olivia and Carlie played a great match at first doubles today.  Both sets were very tight with the girls earning the match by holding steady in two tie breaks.  These girls showed a lot of composure to by not getting down on themselves after losing a lead in the first set and playing smart tennis in the decisive tie breaks.”

The third doubles match was also a close one.  Senior Takaira Wynn-Sheldon and seventh grader Madison Anderson teamed up to fill this spot in the lineup.  “Takaira and Madison have been doing a nice job in their JV matches so it was great to see them play so well at the varsity level today,” commented Lill.  “The girls dropped the first set 6-2, but fought back into the match by winning a close second set 6-4 before eventually dropping the match in a third set super tie breaker 10-3.”
