Yellowjackets Strike Early in 44-12 Win Over Park Rapids

The Perham Yellowjackets put 44 points on the board Friday night as they handed Park Rapids a 44-12 defeat on Perham’s homecoming night.

 

Perham scored three times in the first quarter, starting with a 31 yard TD run by Colton Hackel with 9:40 left in the opening quarter.  Hackel added the extra point kick to make it 7-0.  Noah Rooney caught a pair of TD passes from Hackel, one covering 37 yards and the other from 55 yards out.  Hackel carried the ball in for the two-point conversion following the first TD to push the lead to 21-0. 

Park Rapids scored at 9:32 of the second quarter on a four yard pass to Jeff Haas from Jens Anderson, cutting the Perham lead to 21-6.  Hackel booted a 32 yard field goal at 7:28 and scored on a 12 yard run at 3:26.  Dawson Kellogg completed the first half scoring with a one yard run with just twenty-two seconds left on the clock.  Rooney hauled in a two-point conversion pass from Hackel to give Perham a 38-6 halftime lead.

Kellogg ended the scoring for Perham at 9:14 of the third quarter with a 3 yard run.

Park Rapids added a fourth quarter TD when Anderson connected with Haas on a 16 yard pass.

Perham had 329 yards (215 rushing, 114 passing) of total offense and Park Rapids had 232 yards (61 rushing, 171 passing).

Hackel led the Perham rushing attack with 98 yards on 13 carries.  He also completed 4-of-8 passes for 114 yards. Rooney led the receivers with two catches for 92 yards.

Jens Anderson was 16-for-29 throwing the ball for the Panthers, for 14 yards.  Haas caught seven balls for 57 yards and James Hartig had 78 yards on six receptions.

Defensive leaders for Perham were Brian Ramos (4 solo tackles, 5 assists), Isaac Lung (4 solo tackles, 2 assists) and Gareth Covington (5 solo tackles).  Hackel had an interception and Lane Masteller recovered a fumble.
