Comet Boys Beat DL in OT

The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer Team defeated Detroit Lakes Lakers in OT while playing short, on Saturday at home, by the score of 5 – 3. 

 

The Lakers started all contest scoring at 10 minutes, attacking up the left side and beating Senior Co-Captain Keeper, Zajen McArton, with a goal to the right corner.  Seven minutes later, Kristian Maestad tied the contest with a Comet goal assisted from Hakon Hagerup, ending all scoring for the half with the teams tied. 

DL scored two goals at 51 and 53 minutes gaining a comfortable lead with 27 minutes remaining.  At 61 minures, Vetle Myntevik was taken down in the box on a corner kick and scored on the resultant PK.  Midfielder Hakon Hagerup, then received a red card requiring the Comets play short a player at 65 minutes.  Striker Severing Breck scored with a left footer off a beautiful feed from Kristian Bormo at 71 minutes, tying the game prior to the end of the half.

Kristian Maestad, scored two goals in the first five minute overtime period.  Maestad connected on a 55 yard free kick that floated over the DL keeper and then on a 45 yard blast on an assist from Severin Breck.

The Comets outshot the Lakers 17-16 during the contest.

“It was an exciting game for the fans to watch with a come from behind win in OT for sure,” commented Head Coach Rod Jensen.  “The Comets saw excellent defense and support to the offense from Stopper Kristian Bormo (AGAIN).  We were slow on the field, and our touches were off, with several players sick during the game, but we showed heart as a team and did not give up.”

The Comets, now 3-2 take on Pelican Rapids away on Tuesday.
