The Brandon-Evansville Chargers erupted for 28 second quarter points as they built a 34-0 halftime lead on the way to a 42-0 victory over Bertha-Hewitt on Friday night.

"Bertha is a big physical team,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  “We had to fight for every rushing yard all night.  Because of that, we had to rely on our passing game to get big plays.  Keagan Schiele (11-14, 243 yards, 3 TD’s) once again through the ball well and spread the ball around to a number of receivers.  The defense was lights out with everyone getting to the ball on each play.  They executed the game plan and played together to get the shutout."

Schiele hit Kyle Schaffran for a 12 yard TD with six minutes gone in the game to give the Chargers a 6-0 lead.  Schiele then ran for a 55 yard score to start the second quarter explosion a minute into the quarter, making it 12-0.  Schiele hooked up with Schaffran with a 44 yard touchdown pass with 6:45 left in the half and the Chargers had an 18-0 lead.  With 4:30 remaining in the half Schiele connected with Tanner Bitzan from 17 yards out and Cade Carlson scored the two point conversion, putting the score at 26-0.  Carlson then scored the final first half touchdown on a four yard run and then followed that with a two point conversion run.

The Chargers finished their scoring with a fourth quarter TD run of 5 yards by Tyler Bitzan and a two point conversion run by John Roers.

Brandon-Evansville piled up 474 yards on the night, 243 passing and 231 rushing.  Carlson ran the ball 23 times for 99 yards.  Top receivers were Tanner Bitzan (4 catches, 83 yards) and Schaffran (3 catches, 70 yards).

Defensive leaders for the Chargers were Tanner Bitzan (4 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles), Carlson (2 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles) and Marshall Riedel (2 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, INT).  Nathan Baumann came through with a sack.

Bertha-Hewitt recorded 121 yards of offense, led by quarterback Cody Shamp (9-16, 63 yards) and Hunter Dean (2 catches, 31 yards, 13 carries, 26 yards).

Brandon-Evansville will host Hillcrest on Friday, September 20.
