Pelican Rapids ran their record to 3-0 with a 32-0 win over Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night in Wadena.

“Offensively, we struggled at times but still managed to put up over 300 yards of offense and 32 points,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach David Haugen. “We didn't have some of the explosive runs they we had in the first two games but we were able to grind out some tough yards and picked up two big touchdown passes to Logan Fahje.  Wadena has some great size and very good players so they really presented a challenge to us.  We feel good being able to go home with a shut out win.”

Jayden Rutherford got the scoring started with an 11 yard run with 7:17 to play in the opening quarter.  At 8:47 of the second quarter McHale Korf connected with Fahje for a 38 yard TD, putting the score at 12-0.  The Vikings made it 20-0 with just 22 seconds left in the first half on a four yard pass from Korf to Rutherford and a two-point conversion run by Matt Ziebell.

In the fourth quarter, Korf hit Fahje from 27 yards out at 9:55, and Rutherford scored on a 5 yard run with 5:17 to play.

The Vikings had 344 total yards, and held WDC to 110 yards of offense.  Korf finished the night with 6 completions on 12 attempts for 116 yards.  He also led Pelican with 111 rushing yards on 13 carries.  Fahje led all receivers with 76 yards on 4 catches.

For Wadena-Deer Creek, Kade Woods caught five passes for 24 yards and quarterback Payton Rondestvedt was 9-for-16 for 67 yards.

Next week the Vikings travel to take on Mahnomen-Waubun.
