Brandon-Evansville participated in the Browerville Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, losing to New York Mills 2-1 (25-18, 19-25, 15-9), beating Browerville 2-0 (25-19, 25-16), winning 2-1 (18-25, 26-24, 15-12) over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, and defeating Verndale 2-1 (22-25, 29-27, 15-8).

“With the season being a couple of weeks old we were excited to go against some of the favorites in the section,” commented B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson.  “We have a few issues to work on moving into next week, but overall we had a successful day in Browerville.  The players were really excited to play all three of the teams.  New York Mills being the defending Section Champion, it is always exciting to play a team of that caliber.  Browerville is playing better than last year and Mary does such a great job coaching, they are always a tough match.  Of course CGB beat us last year to end our season and the kids were really focused moving into that match.  With Verndale we wanted to end the day on a winning note.  We were disappointed going 2-1 and playing the 5th place match, but we were happy with the results of the day.  Mary runs a great tournament with competitive matches all the way through in both pools.”

Olson continued, “We played with focus most of the day.  Our passing was key in our victories and hurt us in our loss.  The girls have some work to do in order to clean up a few issues, but looking towards the middle part of our schedule, starting with Henning on Tuesday and Ashby on Thursday, we have a pretty good understanding what we need to work on.”
