Rockets Finish Second at Roseau Tournament

Underwood finished 2nd in the Pink Division of the Ruth Hayden Tournament of Roses on Saturday, losing to Roseau in the Championship Match 2-1 (25-18, 14-25, 9-15).

“Overall it was a fun day for us, we learned a lot about our team and competed hard,” commented Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross.  “We dominated the first set in the Championship Match and then lost momentum in set 2 and couldn't recover.” 

The Rockets finished 2nd in their pool by defeating Nevis 25-23 and 25-23, then got beat by Fosston 13-25, 17-25, and defeated East Grand Forks, 25-19, 25-20.  Underwood played Nevis again in the first round of play offs and beat them 25-16, 25-18.  

Brooke Hovland had a great day for us getting 31 kills, 4 ace serves, 22 digs, and 3 ace blocks,” said Ross.  “Shaynah Smith added 20 kills, 2 ace serves and 7 ace blocks, Kayla Rocholl led in the digging with 42, and added 14 kills, 8 ace serves and 2 ace blocks, followed by Brianna Evavold with 41 digs. Ally Johnson also had 14 kills and 5 ace blocks, Josey Bugbee added 14 kills and 22 digs.  Reese Richards had 43 assists, and was a perfect server for the day with 24/24 along with 4 aces, 5 kills, 12 digs and 4 ace blocks. Amber Frigaard added 39 assists, 4 ace serves, and 17 digs. 

Underwood is now 5-3 on the season and will face Parkers Prairie on Thursday.
