The Hancock Owls hosted Ashby in a high school volleyball match on Thursday night and the Owls prevailed in five sets, 25-10, 9-25, 25-14, 17-25, 15-7.

“We came out struggling to put things together in the first match but found a groove in the second and we pushed through with great serving,” said Ashby Head Coach Hayley Stevens. “We are making a lot of changes still and finding that niche together on the court is taking some time, but I really saw it come together tonight with some underclassmen stepping up. Our serving improved tremendously from the first couple games and we have been beating ourselves by missing at the line. I was very proud of all the girls tonight after a great JV win and the successes we did see on the court with varsity.”

Ashby was led by Amelia Barry (13/15 serving, 1 ace, 13 set assists, 13 digs), Anissa Heinrich (10/11 serving, 1 ace, 3 kills, 1 block, 10 digs), Cailey Schlosser (8/9 serving, 2 aces, 4 kills, 1 block, 12 digs), Courtney Koefod (8/10 serving, 1 ace, 18 digs), Madeline Thompson (16/17 serving, 2 aces) and Celi Nelson (17/18 serving, 4 kills, 1 block, 13 digs).
“We go to Montevideo on Saturday to see a handful of teams that we have never been up against,” said Coach Stevens.  “Hoping to have a lot of court time to work on the things the girls did well tonight, so we can capitalize on those in the coming weeks.”
