The Alexandria boys cross country team scored 42 points and took first place at the Detroit Lakes Invitational on Thursday.  Frazee was runner-up with 68 points.  They were followed by Shanley (73), Detroit Lakes (91), Fergus Falls (147), Thief River Falls 9159), Breckenridge/Wahpeton (179). Pelican Rapids (214), Hawley (241), Lake Park-Audubon (241) and New York Mills (359).

Alexandria junior Jacob Kleven (18:01.7) was the individual champion.  Second place went to senior Grady Larsen (18:14.2) of Frazee and David Johnston (18:16.0) of Pelican Rapids was third.

“This meet is the monkey off our backs, as one of the toughest courses our kids will run all year, we came out with some great performances,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Derek Meyer.  “Conrad Lobb, Luke Schroeder and Joe Eberle set the pace for our varsity boys 5th place finish. Our fitness is coming around and the race legs are starting to come back from the summer. I am excited to see how the team will come together in the next few weeks.

Our junior high boys set the tone high for the day. These boys are something special and their hard work in practice is paying off. Jack Welde led the pace for the team, with Logan Brendenberg and Alex Burrows sprinting in close behind. These boys also placed in the top 20 of the race, coming home with some individual hardware along with a 2nd place team finish.”
