The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team began their season with a convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-4) victory over the Hancock Owls on Tuesday night.

“Tonight was a nice first match to get new people acclimated with playing varsity minutes consistently,” stated B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson.  “With two new faces starting for us we had some nervousness heading into the first match. I thought Korrie Randt, Kristen Kokett, and Boris Jacobson did a good job tonight. I was hoping to get Boris into the front row during the third set but Brittany Korkowski had an eleven serve run to end the match.”

The Chargers were led statistically by Bailey Schaefer (9 kills, 1 block, 10 digs, 3 aces), Mikenna Pattrin (5/5 serving, 10 kills, 1 block), Kokett (6 digs, 3 aces), Korkowski (22/22 serving, 5 aces, 3 kills), Randt (27 set assists, 8/10 serving, 1 ace) and Kailee Klimek (5/5 serving, 1 ace, 5 kills, 3 digs).

“Overall, we played solid volleyball,” added Coach Olson.  “I think serving needs to be better. We need to be more consistent, 84% will not be good enough. Offensively we hit over. 400, but missed opportunities to finish some rallies. Free ball passing was okay. A few passes drifted on us and made us work harder than we should have. Hancock hit a lot of balls at us, and I thought we did an adequate job getting the balls up close to the setting box. We still have room to improve in a number of areas, and Hancock did a great job taking advantage at points throughout the match of those areas.  They played hard and until the end.  Our bench was ready and is still figuring out who they are, but the important thing is they were an active part of the match. It is great to get the first win and first match under our belts.”

B-E hosts Battle Lake on Tuesday September 3rd, at home for Parents Night.  “We look forward to a good match and first conference contest of the year,” said Olson.
