The Fergus Falls girls’ soccer team hosted Alexandria in a Central Lakes Conference contest on Tuesday at the Otter Stadium Field, posting a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals.

Anna Anderson converted a pass from Maddie Boyd at 27:56 of the first half and Ellie Anderson scored on a penalty kick at 17:56 as the Otters took a 2-0 halftime lead.

“In the first half we had the wind and we played a more aggressive style of soccer,” reported Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “Those two goals were huge going into the second half.  Alexandria did counter several times in the first half, but Svea Smestad was outstanding tonight.”

Alexandria freshman Ella Westland scored the only goal of the second half.

“In the second half we made a couple position changes and understood with the talent that Alexandria had and the wind with them we chose to absorb the pressure and do our best keeping the Cardinals at bay so Svea Smestad could see and handle all the shots,” added Jurgens.  “The coaching staff is so proud of these girls.  They came to play tonight.  From the very start they played physical and continuously talked on the field.  Svea was definitely the MVP tonight as shots were 21-9 in favor of Alexandria.”
