Hurricanes Post Win at Class C State Tournament

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes opened the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament with a 7-2 win over the Prior Lake Mudcats on Saturday in Delano.

Peter Gaustad (7IP, 9K, 4BB, 3H, 2ER) was the winning pitcher and Eric Hinnenkamp (2IP, 2H, 0R), a draftee from Long Prairie picked up the save.

Prior Lake took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when a Lucas Pumper single scored Greg Faue who was hit by a pitch and balked to second base.

The Hurricanes answered in the bottom of the second with four runs.  Darin Stanislawski led off with a single, Dan Revering drew a one out walk and Jack Hiedeman was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  An Alex Hensch single scored two runs and an infield single by Alex Hexum reloaded the bases.  After a pop out, Thomas Bosek delivered a two-run single.  The ‘Canes made it 5-1 in the fifth when Bosek led off with a triple and scored on a Tosten Mann sacrifice fly.

In the eighth inning, Prior Lake got their second run on a single by BJ Benz that scored Luke Weber.  Fergus Falls closed out the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a Jake Anderson double that scored Revering and Hexum who had singled and walked, respectively.

Anderson (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI), Bosek (2-4, 3B, 2RBI, R, HBP) and Hensch (1-2, 2RBI, R) were the offensive leaders for the Hurricanes.

Fergus Falls turned double plays in the second, fifth and eighth innings to stop rallies.  The ‘Canes will play the Jordan Brewers, 10-4 winners over the Bird Island Bullfrogs on Saturday, August 31 at 11:00am in Delano.
