In 2018 the Pelican Rapids boys' soccer team scored the second highest total of goals in the entire state of Minnesota during the regular season.  That offensive firepower helped lead the Vikings to an 8-4-2 record, a 6-31 Lakes to Prairie Conference mark which landed them third in the conference, and an opportunity to host a home playoff game.  Five starters have graduated, but the cupboard is far from bare for Head Coach John Peters as he enters his fourth year at the helm.

Alfredo Centeno, Habram Martinez, Farhan Omar, Mohamed Isse and Abdinasir Mohamed were all starters who graduated last spring.

Returning letter winners include seniors Oscar Diaz (midfield), Alan Villagomez (midfield), Kirby Nelson (defender) and Abdifitah Isse (defender), and sophomores Sebastian Centeno (midfield), Josh Urbano (striker), Jesus Moreno (striker) and Sebastian Rosiles (defender).  Goalie Axel Zavala also returns.

Coach Peter is expecting defenders Jaime Zavala (SO), Oscar Pedroza (SO) and Abdirahman Said (JR) to step into varsity roles this season.

Joey Coronado will serve as assistant coach and Rudy Martinez will act as a volunteer assistant.

When it comes to the competition, Peter sizes it up this way, “The top two teams in both conference and section play will be Bemidji and Hillcrest.”
