Tonight the Otter tennis team traveled to Detroit Lakes to take on their section 8AA rival Lakers.  Conditions were perfect for tennis.  The Otters knew the veteran-heavy Lakers would be a tall task.  DL returns 8 starting seniors to their squad this year.  The Lakers edged out the Otters 4-3.

The Otters ended up taking the first singles and the first doubles matches.  Ellie Colbeck started uncharacteristically slow against a tough base-liner.  Her first set was back and forth, before Ellie dropped the set 6-4.  Ellie found her groove after the first set break and cruised through the second and third sets at 6-1.  Olivia Kaliher and Carlie Meis teamed up once again atop the doubles ladder.  The girls played a very close first set, earning it in a tie break, before making pretty routine work of the second set at 6-3.  “Carlie and Olivia are grinders out there,” commented Head Coach Jamie Lill of the Otters.  “They work their tails off for every point and are an exciting duo to watch.  This was a nice section win for them.”

DL took control in the second and third singles matches, downing Leila Nasri and Ava Weber in straight sets.  Mia Marsh made the move to the singles side of the action tonight and put together a nice 6-2, 6-3 win in that forth slot.  However, the rest of the Lakers' doubles lineup was too much for the Otters to overcome.  Elissa Lee and Mackenzie Krava fell 6-4, 6-1 at second doubles and Elizabeth Houge and Elizabeth Wickstrom fell at third doubles 6-1, 6-2.

Otter JV tennis had a great night, with many victories from the following athletes: Shanda Halvorson, Takaira Wynn-Sheldon, Madison Anderson, Lexy Samuelson, Brooke Backen, Jasmine Haugse, Isabella Abrahams, Amber Anderson, Avary Bartholomay, Ellie Bergren, Kylie King, Olivia Herzberg, Kezzie Hartwell, Annie Trosvig, Clara Stephan, Izzy Luhning, Amiya Brame, and Hannah Anderson.

The Otters have the weekend off before heading into a five match week next week, beginning with hosting Moorhead at the Kennedy school courts at 4:00pm on Monday.
