The M State golf team finished third at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in June, just six strokes off the title.  Blake Bloedorn and Hunter Moen earned first team All-American status, and Wyatt Blomseth achieved Honorable Mention All-American honors.  They were part of a team that posted the second best team scoring average in school history.  Bloedorn and Moen have graduated and moved on to St. Cloud State, however, Blomseth returns.

The Spartans also lost key contributors Austin Miller, Jordan Kern and Sam Priem to graduation, however, joining Blomseth as returning players are Carter Justesen (Region XIII individual champion and 3-time tournament medalist), and Trevor Dalbec.

With five players having graduated, newcomers Grant Inniger (Barnesville) and John Vall (Hillcrest) will be expected to have an immediate impact on the team.

“I’m excited about our team and schedule,” said Head coach Jason Retzlaff, entering his sixteenth season.  “Our returners will give us a great foundation as Carter and Wyatt both had tremendous seasons for us last year.  We also believe Trevor can have a very nice fall season for us as a returner.  We are excited to add Grant and John to our program as well.  Both high quality young men and excellent golfers.  It will be a lot of fun once again!”

Southwest Tech out of Wisconsin will be the main challenger to the Spartans run as Region XIII champions.  They came within two shots of winning the Region title last season and were just one shot behind the Spartans the previous year.

Jeff Haukos is back for his fifteenth season as assistant coach.
