The bar is set high for the Barnesville volleyball team following their 23-7 record in 2018.  With a young but experienced group returning, head coach Megan Askegaard enters her twelfth season with high expectations of her team.

“This year’s team is coming in with a great deal of experience playing together, as well as plenty of enthusiasm to perform at the highest level,” said Askegaard.  “They are a talented group of ladies who love to play the game of volleyball.  They are strong leaders on the court and that will help their overall team performance down the stretch.  They play well with each other and are extremely competitive.  We are going to be the young team in the conference and section this season, but I expect to see great things on the court from this group of athletes.”

Emily Condon (Defensive Specialist) is coming off a season that saw her record 451 digs, and setter Kimberly Maesse was efficient 96.8% (358-370) of the time from the serving line, recording 29 aces.  She also distributed 456 assists, which computes to 6.40 assists per set.  Other players to watch include Samantha Passa, Lexi Bolgrean, Katie Newell, Emily Bredman, Lauren Halverson, Jordan Tschumperlin and Olivia Sorenson.  Condon and Passa will serve as team captains in 2019.

Askegaard is assisted by McKinzie Tangen, Maggie Stickney and Chrissa Wolters.  She sees Perham and Hawley as favorites in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, with Wadena-Deer Creek challenging the Trojans in sub-section play and Henning being the main challenger in Section 6A.
