A run at the Region 13 championship highlighted the 2018 M State volleyball season as the lady Spartans found themselves ranked in the top ten in the nation during the season, finishing with a 19-8 overall record, a conference mark of 8-4 and as Region 13 runners-up.  With that performance and the majority of their starters returning for the 2019 season, optimism should be high at M State this fall.

“Over half of our starters are returners which will be a huge advantage for us since they already are familiar with our system,” commented fifth year head coach Abby Crowser.  “The biggest challenge this year will be getting our starting freshmen acclimated to the college level and having the team click with one another.  Both of our starting outside hitters are freshman, so getting them to connect with sophomore setter Sydney Hovland quickly will be essential.”

Hovland is joined by returning starters Hannah Ekse (Middle Hitter), Taylor Berndt (Defensive Specialist) and Alexa Mortenson (Middle Hitter).  Freshmen Katherine Mastey and Bailey Marty will occupy the outside hitter spots in the starting lineup.

Other players on the roster include sophomore Sierra Jenson (Defensive Specialist), and freshmen Amzie Aho (Right Side Hitter), Morgan Evavold (Defensive Specialist), Anya Maack (Right Side Hitter) and Alexis Heisler (Defensive Specialist).

Crowser is assisted by former Spartans Morgan Aasness and Krista Shaikoski.  They expect Rochester to once again be the team to beat in the MCAC and Region 13.
