The Fergus Falls girls tennis team lost only two players to graduation, however, they were both key members of the Otters varsity squad.  Kailyn Richey, who teamed with Ellie Colbeck to advance to the section tournament in doubles play, and number three singles player Renee Scheving won’t be easily replaced.

Returning letter winners include seniors Carlie Meis, Elizabeth Houge, Olivia Kaliher, Elissa Lee and Takaira Wynn-Sheldon, juniors Ava Weber and Shanda Halvorson, sophomores Ellie Colbeck, Mackenzie Krava and Elizabeth Wickstrom, and freshman Leila Nasri.  Houge, Meis and Colbeck will serve as team captains.

“We are excited about the upcoming season,” said Head Coach Jamie Lill, entering her seventh season.  “We need girls to step up and move up in the lineup to replace Kailyn and Renee.  We’ve got a lot of new faces that we are excited about and can’t wait to see how our lineup shakes out.  A definite team strength for us would be our attitude and willingness to try different things on the court.  A weakness we see going into the season is simply a lack of varsity experience for many of our girls.”

Roy Anderson and Michelle Danielson will assist Lill.

“Perennial powerhouse Brainerd will be the team to beat in Section 8AA and St. Cloud Tech is looking to defend their state tournament run again this year and will be the favorite in the Central Lakes Conference,” said Lill.
