With seven returning starters from their 4-5 team in 2018, the 2019 edition of the West Central Area/Ashby Knights football team is poised to contend in the Midwest Blue District and in Section 6AA.  Head Coach Nate Wood will be assisted by Todd Hickman, Andy Peterson, Peter Nelson, William Aufdencamp, Dave Stone, Cody Hickman and Ed Perrault.

Gone are Scott Johnson, Tanner Bennett, Ben Johnsrud, Christian Norby, Wyatt Olson,  Gavin Paulson, Alex Butcher, Dakota Ecker, Adam Oberg and Isaiah Sykora.  Paulson will be playing college football at UM-Morris and Johnsrud is a walk-on at NDSU.

Returning starters include seniors Gage Staples (WR/DB), Devin Stone (OL/DL), JJ Sabolik (OL/DL) and Braden Overson (RB/DB), and juniors Tate Christenson (TE/DL), Jordan Lohse (RB/DB) and Jaden Norby (QB/LB).

Juniors Conner Nadgwick (RB/LB), Mark Adams (RB/LB), Shane Wrolson (OL/LB) and Brady Reeve (OL/DL), sophomore Colton Lindquist (C/LB) and freshman Tyler Stone (OL/DL) are all expected to contribute at the varsity level.

Overson, Devin Stone, Sabolik, Staples, Norby and Vinny Finkalson will serve as captains.

“We will demonstrate discipline on and off the field and represent WCA/A with class,” said Coach Wood.  “We want to be in excellent shape and compete to the best of our ability in every game.  The goal is to grow as a team, learn from mistakes and have fun.  We need to work on being mentally tough, accepting and moving on from mistakes.  Mistakes will happen but we must learn and move on.  Play the next play, don’t let adversity dictate the future.”

Wood points to Pillager and Osakis as the strongest teams in the section.
