Hurricanes Power Their Way to Region 16C Title

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes claimed the Region 16C championship on Saturday by beating Long Prairie 12-5 and then defeating Sauk Centre 18-14, qualifying for the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament.

In their win over Long Prairie the Hurricanes banged out 14 hits, led by Jake Anderson (2-5, HR, 2R, 4RBI), Thomas Bosek (2-4, R, 2 2B, 2RBI), Pete Gaustad (2-4, HR, R, 2RBI) and Mitch Porter (2-4, R, RBI).  Gaustad (6IP, 2K, 2BB, 5H, 2R, 2ER) was the winning pitcher and Bosek (3iP, 1K, 3BB, 2H, 3R, 0ER) got the save.

Anderson, Bosek, Tosten Mann, Gaustad and Alex Hexum all hit home runs in the 20-hit attack against Sauk Centre in the title game.  Anderson (3-6, 2B, HR, 2R, 2RBI), Bosek (2-6, HR, 2R, RBI), Mann (4-5, 2B, HR, 3RBI), Gaustad (3-6, 2 2B, HR, 3R, 3RBI), Dan Revering (2-6, 3R, RBI), Jack Hiedeman (2-5, 2R, RBIK) and Alex Hensch (2-4, 2B, R, 2RBI) all had multiple hit games for the ‘Canes.

Eric Salvesen (6.2IP, 2K, 3BB, 11H, 13R, 6ER) was the winning pitcher.

Sauk Centre was led by Derek Holm (2-5, 2R, RBI), Brian Buenig (3-5, 3R, 2RBI), Dylan Haskamp (2-5, 2R, 2RBI) and Andrew Rousslange (2-5, HR, 3R, 4RBI).

The Hurricanes finished Region 16C play with a 4-1 record and improved their season mark to 17-8. They claimed the Region title for the third consecutive year.  The ‘Canes drafted Eric Hinnenkamp from Long Prairie, Doug Zimmel from Osakis and Drew Thompson from Pelican Rapids for the State Tournament.

Pete Gaustad was named Region MVP.  Gaustad went 5-for-18 at the plate, hitting .278, had two doubles, two home runs, 5 runs batted in and 4 runs scored.  He also pitched 11 innings, striking out six, walking five, allowing 10 hits and 3 earned runs by earning one win.
