Sauk Centre scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit and went on to defeat the Fergus Falls Hurricanes by a score of 3-2 in the Region 16C playoffs in Pelican Rapids on Sunday. With the win, Sauk Centre earns a spot in the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Fergus Falls struck quickly when Tosten Mann delivered a two-out double in the bottom of the first inning and Darin Stanislawski launched a two-run homer.
Andrew Primus led off the Sauk Centre fifth with a double, was sacrificed to third base and scored on an infield single by Derek Holm. Brian Buenig reached on an error with Holm taking third base and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dylan Haskamp scored Holm with the tying run. Andrew Rouslange then knocked in Buenig with a base hit.
Mann (2-4, 2B, R) and Stanislawski (2-3, HR, R, 2RBI, BB) led the Hurricanes at the plate. Thomas Bosek (9IP, 2K, 3BB, 10H, 3R, 1ER) took the loss on the mound.
In loser out games on Sunday, Frazee/Vergas eliminated Pelican Rapids 6-1 and Long Prairie beat Osakis 4-1. Frazee/Vergas will now face Long Prairie at 8:00pm Friday with the winner challenging Fergus Falls at 2:00pm Saturday in a State Play-in game. The winner of that game will play Sauk Centre at 5:00pm to determine who will represent Region 16C as the champion and who will be the runner-up at State.
