Hurricanes Top Lakers in 16C Playoffs

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes remained unbeaten in Region 16C Playoff action with a 4-2 win over the Pelican Rapids Lakers on Saturday night in Pelican Rapids. 

Darin Stanislawski shut down the Lakers with four innings of shutout relief in his first appearance on the mound in five weeks.  Stanislawski struck out two, walked one and allowed just one hit.

Pelican Rapids got things started with a run in the top of the first.  Logan Reidel doubles with one out and scored on a single by Dana Johnson.  The Lakers made it 2-0 in the third when Reidel doubled with one out, took third on an error and scored on a ground out off the bat of Dana Johnson.

Fergus Falls scored a run in the sixth to trim the Lakers lead to 2-1.  Alex Hexum singled with one out, took second on an errant pick-off throw and came home on a double by Sean McGuire.  The Hurricanes took the lead with three runs in the seventh inning.  Stanislawski singled, Dan Revering walked and Jake Anderson singled to load the bases with no outs.  After two outs were recorded, Alex Hexum singled to score Revering, and McGuire drove home Anderson and Hensch with his third hit of the game.

Leaders were McGuire (3-4, 2B, 3RBI), Hexum (2-3, R, RBI) and Pete Gaustad (5IP, 4K, 3BB, 5H, 2R, 1ER).

The Lakers were led by Reidel (2-5, 2 2B, 2R, SB) and Adam Johnson (4IP, 5K, 1BB, 1H, 0R).  Johnson had to exit the game with an injury in the fifth inning.

The Hurricanes will face the Sauk Centre Titans at 5:00pm Sunday with a trip to State on the line.

Other Region 16C results saw Long Prairie defeat Urbank, 7-2, Vergas eliminate Dent 9-8 in 16 innings, and Sauk Centre won over Osakis, 5-3.  Vergas and Pelican Rapids will play on Sunday, as will Long Prairie and Osakis.
