Hurricanes Win Region 16C Playoff Opener

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes won their opening game in the Region 16C Tournament on Sunday, beating Long Prairie by the score of 5-4 in Pelican Rapids.

Thomas Bosek (8IP, 5K, 0BB, 5H, 4ER) improved his record to 6-0 with the win and Eric Salvesen got the save.  Long Prairie got two singles to lead off the ninth but a strikeout and a fly out and a perfect throw home to get the runner tagging from third base preserved the victory for the Hurricanes.

Alex Hexum knocked in Darin Stanislawski with the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.  Stanislawski was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and went to second on a bunt single by Dan Revering.

Long Prairie took a 3-1 lead on a 3-run homer by Joey Gaida in the top of the third.  Fergus Falls answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.  Sean McGuire led off with a single and stole second base.  He then scored on a double by Bosek.  Tosten Mann singled home Bosek and after a double play Revering doubled and Jake Anderson launched a home run to right field.

The Predators got the final run of the game came in the eighth when a two-out double by Zach Miller scored Tommy Geisenhoff who had singled with one out.

Bosek (3-4, 2 2B, R, RBI) and Revering (2-4, 2B, R) led the offensive attack for the Hurricanes.

Fergus Falls will play Pelican Rapids at Chauncey Martin Field in Pelican Rapids at 5:00pm Saturday.  The Lakers won their game on Saturday, 5-0 over Kensington.  Other first round games saw Long Prairie beat Alexandria 7-4, Sauk Centre blanked Millerville 10-0 in 7 innings and Vergas defeated Ashby 10-3.
