As we enter the last few days of July and prepare to turn the calendar to August and the final month of summer, golf tournaments begin to take center stage around the area.  Fergus Falls High School graduate (2016) and M State grad (2018) Chris Swenson won the Birchmont in Bemidji on Saturday and will participate in the Pine to Palm in Detroit Lakes beginning on August 5, and club champions were recently crowned at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls.

Swenson beat two of his college teammates on Saturday to claim the Birchmont on his collegiate home course.  He defeated his former M State teammate Cody Cook from Hawley in the semifinals and closed out Bemidji State teammate Matt Gregg on hole seventeen in the finals.  Swenson’s High School coach, Ben Jurgens, won the Executive Consolation Championship at the Birchmont.

Swenson has been busy, playing in the Minnesota State Open Championship last week at Rush Creek Golf Course in Maple Grove and tying for 21st place.  He also tied for 47th in the MGA State Amateur Championship at Sommerby Golf Club in Rochester.

Nate Longtin claimed the PLGC Men’s Club Championship with a five-under par total.  Runner-up honors went to Trevor Gervais who finished seven strokes back.

Gregg Western beat Kelly Longtin in a playoff to win the Senior Men’s championship.

Trevor Larson, who had an ace on the second hole during one of his rounds, took first in the first flight and Brian Fuder was the winner of the second flight.  John Gaudreau took top honors in the Senior Men’s Flight and Dave Siems won the Men’s Super Senior title.

Greta Christenson was the Women’s Champ with a score of 166 and Lisa Burrington was runner-up with a 171.

The title of Junior Champ went to Charlie Fuder with a playoff victory over Davis Shol.
