Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 opened up their playoff schedule with a 6-3 loss to Bemidji and a 6-4 win over Detroit Lakes on Wednesday in DL.

Brock Kotschevar (6IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K) started on the mound and did a great job,” Said Head Coach Trevor Larson.

Marshall King led the offense going 2-for-2 with a single and a double.

Bemidji jumped ahead 3-0 in the first off of a hit and two Post 30 errors. Post 30 would threaten in the late inning, but Bemidji shut them down.

“In a playoff game outs are at a premium, we made too many mistakes that were easier plays to make,” said Larson. “Bemidji made us pay for those mistakes.  They played great defense and deserved to win.”

In game two Nathan Zierden (5IP, 4H, 3R, 1ER, 8BB, 3K) started on the mound and picked up the victory.  Austin Stanislawski picked up a two inning save, striking out two.

Stanislawski and Cole Knudson led the offense with 3 hits apiece. Marshall King continued to stay hot having two hits and 2 RBI.

“While we are certainly happy to stay alive for another day, we were still too sloppy to be satisfied,” noted Coach Larson. “3 errors and 8 walks over 7 innings isn’t a good formula to win. We will need to be much crisper to win our next game.”

Post 30 plays the loser of Moorhead and Perham on Thursday at 4:00pm in Detroit Lakes.
