Fergus Falls Post 30 Jr Legion sweeps DGF Post 397

The sun was out and the air was warm this past Monday when Fergus Falls Post 30 played DGF Post 397 in Junior Legion Baseball action on the field adjacent to Bob Marshall Field in Dilworth. Post 30 stormed into town and won both sides of the doubleheader in dominant fashion: 17-4 in six innings and 12-0 in five innings. Post 30 Jr Legion is sponsored by the American Legion Post 30 in Fergus Falls and coached by Jared Larson and Casey Stokesbary.

 

Abel Aho (3.0 IP, 1H, 4K) pitched three shutout innings to start game one for Post 30. Post 30 scored 8 runs during Aho’s stint and wound up scoring in every inning except the fourth. Post 30 scored six in the second, five in the fifth, and four in the sixth. Ian Stumbo and Jack Baker led Post 30 with three hits apiece. Carter Thielke led Post 30 with 3 RBI. Overall, the club pounded out 17 hits over six innings. Jaden Norby, Arik Heacox, Aho, Thielke, and Bryce Burrill chipped in with two hits apiece. Nobody struck out for Post 30 and Jack Uhrich earned three walks and came around twice to score.

Drew Bailey pitched one inning of relief during which DGF cut Post 30’s lead in-half by scoring four unearned runs. David Horgen pitched the final two frames, allowing just one hit.

Matt Scott threw a shutout in the nightcap, limiting DGF to five hits while striking out nine batters. Post 30 played error-free baseball to back Scott. Burrill and Horgen had two hits apiece to pace the club. Norby and Horgen had two RBI each to go along with single RBI by Heacox, Burrill, Bailey, and Kolson Papon.

Post 30 was scheduled to play Bemidji this past Wednesday but got rained out.

Up next is the Sub State tournament July 21-23 in Bemidji. Fergus Falls earned the number two seed and will play host and three seed Bemidji at 4pm on Sunday, July 21. Moorhead (1), Perham (4), and East Grand Forks (5) round out the seeding. Perham plays EGF at 11 with the winner to play Moorhead at 1:30.
