10U Otters Use Five Pitchers in Double No-Hitter Against Wahpeton

The Fergus Falls Otters 10u team traveled to Wahpeton on Thursday evening for their last double-header before the state tournament. The Otters swept the Huskies by the scores of 16-0 and 8-0.

In game 1, the Otters received strong pitching performances from Brody Krein and Nolan Felstul who combined for a no-hitter. Krein pitched two innings and struck out 3 batters and Felstul pitched the last two innings, striking out 5. In the top of the first, the Otters got on the board in a hurry as Caleb Fronning led off the game with a home run. Krein tripled and scored in the top of the first. After one, the Otters led 2-0. The young Otters put the game away in the second as they tacked on 10 runs. In the second, Jacob Jenc singled and scored, John Abrahams walked and scored, Kadyn Zender singled and scored, Easton Hanson walked and scored, Benett Thielke singled and scored, Josh Horgen walked and scored, Fronning tripled and scored, Felstul doubled and scored, Krein doubled and scored and Luke Johnson walked and scored. The Otters wrapped up the scoring in the top of the fourth as Horgen tripled and scored, Fronning singled and scored, Felstul singled and scored and Krein smashed a home run over the left fielder’s head.

In game 2, Horgen, Zender, and Fronning combined for a no-hitter as well. Horgen pitched the first two innings and struck out 4 batters, Zender worked an inning and a third and struck out 3, Fronning pitched the last inning and two-thirds and struck out 4. The Otters pushed one run across in the top of the first with Thielke singling and scoring. The Otters tacked on 3 more runs in the third with Johnson singling and scoring, Krein singling and scoring, Felstul singling, and Fronning doubling and scoring. The Otters added 4 more in the top of the fourth with Zender singling and scoring, Abrahams doubling and scoring, Tanner Donaghue walking and scoring, and Johnson singling and scoring.

The hitting leaders for the Otters in the two games were Fronning with 4 hits (HR, 3b, 2b, and 1b), Felstul 4 hits (2b), Krein 5 hits (HR, 3b, 2b, and 2 1b’s), Johnson 2 hits, Donaghue 1 hit, Jenc 1 hit, Abrahams 1 hit (2b), Zender 2 hits, Thielke 3 hits, and Horgen 1 hit (3b).

“The pitching and hitting really came together in these two games against Wahpeton,” said coach Chad Felstul. “We not only threw two-no hitters but Brody Krein and Caleb Fronning both hit for the cycle in the double-header. We will have to continue pitching and hitting if these boys want to make a run in the state tournament,” added Felstul.

With the two wins, the Otters improve to 21-6 on the season and take on Austin and Maple Lake in pool play at the state tournament in Mankato next weekend.
