After a two week hiatus for games, the Fergus Falls Otters 10u baseball team traveled to Morris on Thursday night and split a doubleheader, winning the first game 4-3 and losing the second game 7-4.

Caleb Fronning led off the game with a triple down the right field line but was thrown out at home after a perfect relay throw by the Morris right fielder and second baseman. Nolan Felstul and Brody Krein both singled but the Otters were not able to push any runs across the board in the first. The Otters scored 2 runs in the third when Josh Horgen walked and Fronning doubled to score Horgen. Fronning then scored on a passed ball. The Otters wrapped up the scoring in the 4th when Tanner Donaghue tripled on a long drive to right and came around to score when Kellen Funkhouser reached base on a fielder’s choice.  Funkhouser also came around to score.

Fronning started on the bump for the Otters and pitched very well into the 4th inning for the Otters as he struck out 9 batters. Horgen and Krein came in to close the door and seal the win for the Otters.

In the second game, the Otters had plenty of scoring chances but couldn’t get on the board until the top of the fifth when the Otters put a rally together that unfortunately fell short. In the top of the fifth, Krein led off with a double and scored on a Luke Johnson double, Jacob Jenc doubled and scored, and Donaghue and Kellen Funkhouser both walked and came around to score.

Hitting leaders in the doubleheader for the Otters were Fronning with 2 hits (2b and 3b), Felstul with a single, Krein with three hits (2 1b’s and 2b), Johnson with a double, Jenc with a double, Donaghue with two hits (1b and 3b), and Zender with a single.

The Otters move to 19-5 on the season and have one doubleheader left before the state tournament in Mankato the weekend of July 26.
