Hurricanes Shut Down Frazee/Vergas

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes banged out 13 hits on the way to a 12-0 victory over the Frazee/Vergas Loons on Sunday afternoon in Vergas.  The win makes the ‘Canes 12-5 overall and 7-2 in Countryside League action.

Thomas Bosek (6IP, 9K, 2BB, 7H, 0R) improved his record to 5-0 on the mound.  Sean McGuire (2-4, 2B, BB, SB, 2IP, 0H, 2K, 1BB), Jake Anderson (2-5, 2R, RBI), Alex Hexum (3-5, R, RBI) and Jack Hiedeman (4-4, 2B, 2R, 3RBI) led the Hurricanes.

Fergus Falls got on the board in the third inning when Hiedeman led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dan Revering later in the inning.

In the fourth, Pete Gaustad, Anderson and Hexum led off with consecutive singles.  An error allowed Gaustad to score and Anderson came across the plate on a sacrifice fly by Hiedeman.

A four-run fifth gave the Hurricanes a 7-0 lead.  Revering reached on an error leading off the inning and Darin Stanislawski singled him to third base.  Gaustad reached second on a throwing error which scored both Revering and Stanislawski.  Gaustad took third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.  Hexum then singled, stole second base, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Hiedeman single.

Fergus Falls pushed across two more in the seventh when Anderson led off with a base hit, stole second and scored on a Hiedeman single.  Hiedeman scored on an error to put the Hurricanes lead at 9-0.  They got their final three runs in the eighth.  Revering and Stanislawski were both hit by pitches and Gaustad walked to load the bases.  An Anderson ground out scored Revering, Stanislawskii crossed the plate on a single by Hexum and a ground out by Eric Salvesen scored Gaustad.

Rory Drewes (2-4, 2B) and Jake Galbrecht (2-4) led Frazee/Vergas.

Fergus Falls will play at Dent on Friday at 8:00pm and will host Deer Creek in a double header beginning at 1:30pm Sunday.
