Breckenridge Post 53 squeaked out a 4-3 American Legion Baseball victory in 8 innings against Pelican Rapids on Tuesday in Minnesota Lakes Conference play.

Jake Wendorff started on the mound for Post 53 and gave up 3 runs. “After walking a batter, giving up a couple singles, making an error in the field, and a wild pitch - we ended the first inning down 3-0 - not the start we were looking for,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “The offense didn’t fare much better stranding runners in multiple innings.”

Post 53 didn’t score their first run until the bottom of the 4th when Jeremy Stack walked and Mitch Porter doubled him home. “We were fortunate to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th when Hunter Feigum was hit by a pitch and Stack tripled scoring Feigum to make the score 3-2. Brayden Wahl singled scoring Stack to tie the game. We had a chance to win it in the bottom of the 7th but didn’t get it done. We ended up scoring the winning run in the 8th when Jack Aigner was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Hayden Schuler ran for Aigner and stole second base. Max Johnson laid down a sac bunt to move Schuler to third and he scored on a game winning wild pitch.  The player of the game has to go to Luke Arnhalt. Arnhalt pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings striking out five, walking three and giving up five hits. When we got in a jam and needed strikes, Luke stepped up.”

Post 53 is on the road to face Barnesville on Wednesday.
