Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 traveled to Bemidji for a double header on Tuesday. Bemidji took game one 6-3 and Post 30 rebounded for a 1-0 game two victory.

Post 30 came out the gate very slow in game one. Bemidji would jump on the board in the 1st inning with 2 runs on a two out single to right off Ashwin Stratton. Mike Maanum (5IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 4BB, 4k) threw well in relief.

Austin Stanislawski and JK Brimhall led the attacking offensively with a hit each.

“Game two the story was about Jaydon Ollila,” said Head Coach Trevor Larson. “We talked in between games about needing leaders to step up and take charge of the season.  Ollila did that and then some. Ollila (7IP, 2H, 0R, 5BB, 4K) went the distance earning the complete game shutout win.

The game remained tied in a pitchers duel until the 5th when Cole Knudson led off with a double, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Fronning to score the only run of the game.

“I can’t say enough about Jaydon Ollila’s effort tonight on the mound,” continued Coach Larson. “He had a great feel for his change-up and curve ball. Ollila often times got back into counts with his off-speed pitches to keep batters off balance. Jaydon really stepped up when we needed someone to be a leader, I hope everyone takes a look at what he did tonight and try to copy him. He didn’t let any calls or non-calls get to him, he was a bull dog out there. As a coaching staff we are happy with a split on the road. We would have liked to get two wins on the road, but we also feel very fortunate to get a win in the second game when recoding only 2 hits. We need to do a better job as coaches to make sure our guys are locked in and ready to roll before we touch the field.”

Post 30 continues action on Thursday when they travel to Moorhead to play the Blues.
