Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 continued tournament play Saturday Morning, matching up with Champlin and Rochester. Post 30 dropped game one versus Champlin, 12-4, but they rebounded with a 6-2 victory over Rochester.

Champlin jumped on Post 30 starter Austin Stanislawski in the second and third inning for a combined 5 runs. Post 30 responded with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th to make it 5-4 in favor of Champlin. That was as close as game one would get and Champlin added 3 in the top half of the 5th to break the game open.

Nic Pearson led Post 30 at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Post 30 committed 4 errors in the contest.

Nic Pearson started on the mound and picked up the win in game two, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and two earned runs.  He walked four and struck out three.  Ashwin Stratton picked up the save (2 1/3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K).

Pearson once again had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and 2RBI.

“Games one and two were total opposites,” commented Post 30 Head Coach Trevor Larson. “Game one we hit the ball well, but we couldn’t put away batters and we made too many mental mistakes. We responded well being down 5-0 to make it 5-4, but you can’t keep giving good teams extra outs. Game two we didn’t really hit the ball well at all, recording only 4 hits. But, we fielded the ball and made some timely plays to get out of jams.  Nic Pearson had a great day, hitting every fastball he saw hard somewhere.”

Post 30 advances to the championship bracket as the number 1 seed. They will play the 2 seed from bracket number 3. Post 30 will face either Eden Prairie, Brainerd, or Champlin, at 9:00am Sunday in Carlos.
