The Otters played PRBA in Evansville Wednesday evening and really didn’t play well and were overmatched by the home team, losing game one 23-0 and game two 23-6. In game one, the Otters could only manage two hits, a first inning single by Levi King and a fourth inning single by Andrew Klinnert.

Game two was a little better offensively and the Otters jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. King singled to lead off the game, Logan Larson walked, and finally the Otters strung together some hits. Alex Ellison and Isaac Ellison had RBI singles. Robert Ehlert singled and that was followed by an RBI base knock by Lucas Hanson to give the Otters and early 4-0 lead.

Unfortunately that lead didn’t last long as PRBA scored five in the bottom of the first and never looked back, winning the game 23-6. The Otters did score a run in the second when Garret Kuhn-Rice singled and took advantage of some PRBA mistakes to score and they added another in the third when Larson walked and came around to score on Isaac Ellison’s second base hit and RBI of the game.

The Otter then traveled to Breckenridge for a weekend tournament. Game one was against Wahpeton and started well for the Otters, but they couldn’t put enough base hits together for the win. Levi King started the top of the first with a single and that was followed by a number of walks and wild pitches to give the Otters a 4-0 first inning lead. Wahpeton scored a run in the second but the Otters added a couple in the top of the third. King led off the top of the third inning with a long home run that cleared the 200 foot left field fence by plenty to make the score 5-1. Larson walked, stole second and scored on an Isaac Iverson RBI single for a 6-1 Otter lead.

Wahpeton kept chipping away at the lead. They scored three in the third to make the score 6-4 Otters, but then took the lead for good with a four run fourth. The Otters did manage to get a single from Isaac Ellison and a double by King, but neither runner was able to score and the Otters lost 8-6.

In game one Saturday, the Otters played DGF and really pitched well and made some defensive plays, but managed only two hits, singles by Larson and Ehlert, and lost the game 6-0.

The Otters did get a much needed win in game two Saturday, beating the host team Breckenridge. Isaac Ellison turned in a superb five inning pitching performance to get the shut out. The Otters received RBI hits from Kuhn-Rice and Boston Rosin on their way to the 5-0 victory.

The Otters came right back for a 9:00 AM game Sunday and played a very good Bismarck team. The Otters competed well, but once again hits were tough to come by and the Otters lost 11-1.

In the final game of the tournament for the Otters, they once again played Wahpeton. This time it was all Wahpeton and they won the game 11-1. The Otters only hits in the game came in the first inning. Lucas Hanson led off with a single and stole second. Klinnert picked up the RBI on a single. Ehlert also singled but the Otters couldn’t push him across and that was all the offense for the game and the tournament ended with the Otters having a 1-4 record.

Monday the Otters had the difficult task of playing the top traveling 12U team in Alexandria. This team is big and can hit the ball. The Otters did hit the ball much better in both games, but defensively they were not very good, especially in game one.

The Otters did score a run in the top of the first on a Logan Larson base hit, he stole second, and Garrett Kuhn-Rice picked up the RBI with a single to give the Otters and early 1-0 lead.

The Otters set the tone for the game defensively as they made two errors on the very first play to the leadoff hitter and that’s the way the game went. Alexandria scored seven first inning runs and cruised to an 18-2 win.

In game two, the Otters competed much better and trailed 9-8 after three inning but the Cardinals took advantage of the Otter defensive mistakes to put the game away with a 13 run fourth inning and won the game 20-8.

The Otters hit the ball much better in game two. Larson singled to lead off the game and stole second and Kuhn-Rice picked up the RBI with a single. Ehlert singled home Jon Krava, who had walked and the Otters had a 2-0 lead.

Alexandria scored four in the bottom of the first, but the Otters tied the game on some wildness by the Cardinal pitcher. Boston Rosin did start the inning with a single and he and Andrew Klinnert scored to make the score 4-4.

Alexandria scored two in the bottom of the second for a 6-4 lead but the Otters finally strung together some good at bats and took the lead with four runs in the top of the third. Kuhn-Rice led off with a single, Isaac Iverson reached on an error and Ehlert walked to load the bases. Rosin picked up and RBI with a single and Andrew Klinnert picked up another with a double. Alex Ellison singled in a run and by the time the damage was done the Otters found themselves with an 8-6 lead and were having some fun in the dugout.

Alexandria did score three runs in their half of the third to retake the lead at 9-8 and put the game away with a huge bottom of the fourth to win 20-8.

The 12U Otter Gold has a break now until they compete in a tournament in Morris on June 29.
