Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 earned a split of their Tuesday double header with Alexandria at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.  Post 30 won the first game 3-1, but lost game two by the score of 7-3.

Brock Kotschevar (5IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 5K) started game one and was tremendous, however, reliever Jaydon Ollila (1.1IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K) picked up the win in relief.  Austin Stanislawski got the final two outs, inducing the game ending 4-6-3 double play to earn the save.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when Post 30 drew back-to-back walks by Stanislawski and Nathan Zierden.  A fielder’s choice put runners on first and third for Cole Knudson who sharply singled to right field to give Fergus Falls a 1-0 lead.  Alexandria tied the game on an error and a sacrifice fly, but Post 30 took the lead for good on a safety squeeze by Ashwin Stratton, scoring JK Brimhall.  Stanislawski followed with a 2-out RBI single to make it 3-1.

In game two Fergus Falls outhit Alexandria 9-8, but also committed five errors that led to their defeat.  Mike Maanum (4.1IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K) started on the mound and Zierden (2IP, 1H, 4R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K) took the loss.  Marshall King finished the seventh inning with a strikeout.

“Today was a tale of two halves,” said Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “The first half was fantastic.  The boys made plays and Brock was fantastic with his change-up.  We put the ball in play and executed when we really needed to.  Game two had an excellent start, but you can’t let innings snowball on you.  We had two bad innings and it ended up costing us a sweep of a very good Alexandria squad.”

Post 30 is off until Friday when they travel to Alexandria for tournament play starting at 5:00pm.
